11 Jul Blog series part 1: The new world of major events between innovation, sustainability and global responsibility.
Major events are more than just spectacles – they are a reflection of our times, a platform for encounters, an economic factor and, above all, a driver of innovation in a wide variety of areas. In an increasingly networked world in which climate, technology and society are undergoing major changes, the demands and expectations placed on the event industry are also changing fundamentally.
Sustainability and future viability: the new standard
In the past, an event was considered successful if it made an impression. Today, it must also have an impact: socially, ecologically and culturally. Sustainability is no longer a bonus, but a prerequisite for relevance. Whether CO2-neutral mobility, reusability of buildings or local zero-waste catering, modern events are future-oriented projects with attitude.
Professional project management that integrates ecological, social and economic criteria is becoming a decisive success factor. International brands are increasingly relying on strategic partners who not only provide logistics and atmosphere, but also responsibility and foresight.
Europe meets Asia: two continents, one destination – with different paths
In Europe, cities such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin in particular are pioneers in the field of sustainable event planning. From green venues to transparent supply chains, they show that innovation and ethics are not a contradiction in terms.
In Asia, on the other hand, especially in major cities such as Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo, technological progress and cultural depth are meeting a new wave of luxury and lifestyle events. Formats are emerging here that combine high-end staging with digital intelligence and smart sustainability. Whether futuristic light art in Singapore or zero-plastic catering at the Fashion Summit in Tokyo – the region is setting new standards, often more radically, more courageously and faster than in Europe.
The global view ahead
The future of major events lies in the ability to combine global perspectives with a local context. While Europe focuses on participation, inclusion and long-term value creation, Asia shines with dynamism, technological innovation and bold aesthetics.
What comes next?
In part 2 of this series, we look at the differences and special cultural characteristics of event cultures in Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo with a focus on the inspiring lessons for European event strategies. Part 3 is then dedicated to the European counterpart: how cities such as Hamburg, Paris and Barcelona are catching up with innovative concepts and what they can learn from Asia.
The world of events is changing. And it is ready to take on responsibility. The question is no longer whether, but how well we can create experiences that inspire and preserve at the same time.
